Workplace Spirituality and The Golden Rule of Selling…

The Workplace is where we spent most of our waking hours.  It is a place that offers many challenges and opportunities to express our spirituality. The article below presents a great example of how “Acceptance” can connect you to your “higher self” thus allowing you to become a better individual as well as a valuable Team Member…

The Golden Rule of selling by Christopher Michael as seen on spirituality.com

After dropping out of college in 1973, I took a job selling women’s shoes in the mall. In my brief career as a shoe salesman, I learned three important lessons: 1. The best salespeople were artists who danced with their customers—always anticipating their next move. 2. I was never going to be a great shoe salesman. 3. The Golden Rule works—even in a sales situation.

The assistant manager of the store where I worked was a master of his craft. He could find any shoe in the store with only the vaguest description and always had two alternatives to suggest if a customer’s first choice was unavailable. He could handle half a dozen customers at once—circling the room taking sizes and requests, picking up the discards, darting into the stockroom to emerge moments later with dozens of shoeboxes that he dispensed like a blackjack dealer lays down cards.

There was a problem with the assistant manager’s management.

There was a problem, however, with the assistant manager’s management. In theory, sales people took turns waiting on customers. In practice, the assistant manager took the customers who looked the most prosperous. Anyone he judged to have little buying potential—or worse, wanted to return something—he’d hand off to one of the rest of us. Sometimes he would take two or three customers in a row before giving one away.

He was taking money out of our pockets, and it wasn’t right for him to treat us differently than he’d want to be treated. I tried to talk to him but got nowhere—he needed the money. I tried talking to the store manager. He was sympathetic, but not willing to press the issue—after all, the assistant manager was his best salesperson. There just didn’t seem to be anything I could do in the face of the assistant manager’s aggressive tactics.

An “equal share of unlimited” seemed better than a “smaller part of scarce.”

Eventually I upset myself enough that I thought I’d better pray about it. It seemed to me that I had two choices: I could see us as competing for a limited number of customers and accept that the more powerful person would always take more. Or I could focus on spiritual facts that named us both as equal recipients of God’s unlimited goodness. An “equal share of unlimited” seemed better than a “smaller part of scarce,” but it was tough to hold on to that idea while watching the assistant manager in action.

I asked a friend I often turned to for spiritual guidance what was the spiritual opposite of the aggression I saw in the assistant manager.

“Acceptance,” my friend said.

“Acceptance?” I thought.

It wasn’t what I was expecting to hear—it seemed so turn-the-other-cheek-and-get-slapped-again wimpy. I was looking for something bold and powerful.

“Accept that God’s will is being done,” he added.

Oh. That acceptance. I was going to have to think about it.

Oddly enough, when I thought about it, acceptance did seem to be the right answer. I realized that I’d been thinking I had to fix something that was broken—another person, myself, a situation—when what I needed to do was accept that the law of God, good, was in complete control. I felt relieved.

Apparently he’s found her wanting on the “I’m going to buy-o-meter.”

But, I’m back at work the next day and nothing seems to have changed. The assistant manager is sizing up a woman entering the store. I can almost hear the gears turning as he does the calculations. Apparently he’s found her wanting on the “I’m going to buy-o-meter” since he’s signaling me to wait on her.

She has a list of shoes she wants to try on, but half an hour later, despite a growing wall of rejected shoeboxes, there’s no sale in sight. The assistant manager motions me over: “Cut her off. She’s running ya.”

Privately I agree with his assessment—I’m waiting on one of those incomprehensible people who actually enjoys trying on (but not purchasing) shoes. But I decide to stick to God’s promise that His will leads only to good. It was my job to help people buy shoes, and I certainly wouldn’t want a salesperson to tell me that I was taking up too much of his time if I were buying shoes. So, I keep bringing out boxes. I didn’t let go of the Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” (See links below.) Obeying the rule meant everyone would be taken care of.

An indecisive hour later (maybe more, maybe less, I don’t know), it feels to me like she’s tried on every shoe in her size—in addition to having indulged in some serious wishful thinking regarding the physics of foot compressibility versus the elasticity of shoes.

And she still can’t decide among her favorites.

So, she buys them all!

(It was the biggest single sale in my career as a shoe salesman.)

2012 The Year of the Black Water Dragon

The Chinese New Year on January 23rd marks the beginning of the year of the Black Water Dragon. It seems to me that this mythical creature is a perfect symbol for this very enigmatic year. Many believe that some Cataclysmic or transformative event will occur on 2012. Find out how a positive state of mind can influence personal and global events…

Chinese New Year 2012 horoscope

The year 2012 of the Black Water Dragon promises to be a very interesting time that will provide plenty of opportunities for all members of the zodiacal circle. This period has many enigmatic, mysterious, unexpected and memorable moments that one can use for one’s own benefit – under a certain activeness and skill of each of the zodiac signs. The new year 2012 by the eastern calendar does not begin on 1st of January as we are used to think, but on 23rd of January, however, its stormy start will not cause the slightest doubt among any of the representative of the zodiacal circle – it’s time for change and one should be ready for that. The Black Water Dragon is a mythical creature, which many consider as non-existent, elusive, devoid of soul and physical appearance. However, Dragon plays a big role in people’s lives because he is the central character in the carnival procession, legends and fairy tales. Dragon is worshiped, he is loved for his strength, power and justice, people who are not in harmony with the law or conscience fear his chastise look like fire. The year 2012 of the Black Water Dragon has the right to ask each person about his deeds, reward good deeds or punish dishonest behavior. The dragon represents daylight and darkness in one person, invincible strength and weakness for beauty and good deeds. Dragon gives health, happiness and wealth, but only to those zodiac signs, who themselves will not sit on one place. The year 2012 will be a dynamic and constantly changing period. It will remind the carnival procession with Dragon in the lead, who is subordinate to his strong will and unbreakable rules. The beginning of the year will be very fast and noisy, with lots of affairs and problems. For all the routes this period to be as much as possible smooth, in the begining of the year, it is necessary to solve all the old problems and build a solid foundation for all affairs. In early 2012, the financial situation will not be overly strenuous, but this period requires both spending on necessary purchases and investments and saving the remaining money for the future. It would be a mistake to burn down your wallet – Dragon may not be able to get the money back. Spring is the most favorite time of the Black Water Dragon. It is the main arena of 2012, which will unfold with serious battles for fame, success, and material wealth. But these battles should not consist of a fight of the signs of the zodiac against each other, but a fight in dealing with their shortcomings, weakness, passivity, and fear. Sentimental Dragon will be especially vigilant in the spring and will not allow momentary weakness of any of the zodiac signs to destroy his carnival procession. Thanks to tough flow of affairs, many of the representatives of the zodiacal circle will learn to achieve their goals and deal with difficulties using their internal, hidden reserves. Summer is a relatively quiet period in 2012, but one should not relax during this period since all activities have acquired a certain intensity and therefore vigilant management of the affairs is needed. Problems that will occur in summer may be associated with gossip, intrigues and discontent at the workplace. Many of the zodiac signs will at this trial time pass by “copper pipes” – glory and wealth, power and position. Fall is a favorable period for summing up. At the end of 2012, all zodiac signs can engage in self-education, make plans for the future, analyze their activities for the full year of 2012. As we know, “don’t count your chickens before they are hatched”, and it is during fall that it will be noticed whether the possibilities of the year 2012 were used on the way to success by each of the zodiac signs, what mistakes were made, and what should be corrected at work.

The most discussed event that is disturbing people’s minds, is the predicted event of 2012 – End of the World, which should be on December 21, 2012. How would this be – global catastrophe, or a time of favorable changes, nobody knows. Fears and prejudices associated with this event paralyze the activities of the weakest zodiac signs, and may themselves serve as a turning point in life to the negative direction. No matter how developed the alleged End of the World is, there is a persistent belief by psychologists and masters of the predictive art that positive emotions, spiritual cleansing and active creative activity of each separately may, greatly and positively influence even globally developing dramatic events. This means that each representative of the zodiacal circle should strive to cultivate optimism, activeness, vitality and ability to plan things.

‘Tangerine Tango’: The Bright, Encouraging Color of 2012 | NewsFeed

The colors that surround us have a great impact in our well being. I am excited that Tangerine Tango was chosen as the color of 2012 for its uplifting and optimistic energy….

Pantone Color Institute

Pantone Color Institute

The world is about to look a lot more vivid: the Pantone Color Institute has named “Tangerine Tango,” a radiant red-orange, as the top color of 2012. The color experts have been amping up their selections each year, with the serene and calming turquoise in 2010 giving way to 2011’s honeysuckle, a warm, reddish-pink color meant to lift spirits and instill confidence.

But the current economic climate and frustrations call for something bolder this coming year. Pantone has turned to the “spirited reddish-orange” hue to “provide the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward.” Orange signals not only vitality, but also urgency and strength—associations that should resonate in a year where many are hoping to finally start seeing changes. “There’s the element of encouragement with orange,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “It’s building on the ideas of courage and action, that we want to move on to better things.

(MORE: Official Color of 2011: Pretty in Honeysuckle)

Eiseman’s background in psychology is put to good use in determining which color will specifically resonate in culture. In a statement, the color specialist explained that Tangerine Tango in particular is “hopeful and optimistic,” marrying the “vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow,” while maintaining a quality of sophistication.

So, how does one decide which color will be worthy of encapsulating the emotional state and pulse of the coming year? Pantone experts look for color influences in various industries, using trend forecasting and some psychology to understand what’s resonating.  Colors are picked up from fashion, film, technology, art, popular travel destination, and “other socio-economic conditions.”

The electric color is likely to manifest itself strongly in fashion, as the color popped up all over the runways in spring collections, including those of Tommy Hilfiger, Nanette Lepore and Elie Tahari. A less expected, but still anticipated, venue for the color: the face. Pantone Universe is partnering with Sephora to launch seasonal makeup collections, and will present Tangerine Tango in a Color of the Year beauty collection in spring. Orange-red lips, nails, and even eye shadows are likely to be trendy next year, Pantone predicts.

For the less committal of us, Tango would be an ideal color for a throw pillow or blanket to liven up a living space, or to energize a room as an accent wall.  We’re not totally certain whether this burst of orange will have a grand effect on some collective psyche, but, hey—whatever works, right?

The Power Of Gratitude

The Power Of Gratitude

Discover The Power Of Gratitude To Unleash
Unlimited Abundance And Happiness In Your Life

The Power Of Gratitude Will Unleash Your Ability To Attract

Developing an attitude of sincere and “heartfelt gratitude”
for your current blessings unleashes the power
for receiving many more. Every Day Give Thanks.

Consciously utilizing The Power Of Gratitude is an extremely important aspect of attracting to yourself the Abundance and Happiness that you desire and deserve in your life.

Once you’ve grasped and adapted the Higher Truth regarding the power of your perceptions, whether it be perceptions of gratitude or it’s polar opposite, you begin to understand and clearly see not only how, but WHY the timeless wisdom that states…

“For to all those who have, more will be given, and they will have an abundance; but from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away.”

…is so profoundly “true” and ALWAYS on target.

First, let’s explore how sincere gratefulness works from a strictly scientific perspective and how, through our individual choice to develop a consistent habit of focusing on and expressing “heartfelt gratitude” enacts the unwavering power of Universal Law in a pleasing and desirable kind of way and without fail draws (or attracts) more for you to be grateful for.

As we’ve discovered in the Law of Vibration , everything within our universe broken down into it’s purest and most basic form is a vibrating mass of atoms and subatomic particles. (Energy) Through the Law of Attraction , the energy (vibrations) that you resonate and project based on your thoughts, feelings, and emotions determines your individually projected “vibrational frequency” which broadcasts that frequency into “the field”, the Kingdom attracts to it energy or vibrational frequencies that harmonize or resonate with it which determines the events, situations, and circumstances that you attract and eventually see and experience as they manifest into tangible and measurable form in your life.

What does that have to do with the Power Of Gratitude?

Absolutely Everything!

When you are in a sincere state of gratitude your energy (vibrational resonance) is one of acceptance and harmony. You resonate, and as a result project a much higher vibrational frequency which is exactly what attracts to you the events, conditions, and circumstances that you desire.

To provide more clarity on the resonance created and projected by focusing on and consistently choosing an attitude of gratitude, consider the following analogy…

Think of yourself as a giant magnet. Whatever you are feeling, whether it be love, fear, anger, happiness, anger, joy, gratitude, resistance etc. you are in essence creating a magnetic force that attracts and draws to you events, conditions and circumstances which are in direct correlation to what you are feeling. Fear of something creates a magnetic force that will attract more of what you fear. Expressing Gratitude for any situation projects a magnetic force that draws to you more of what you are expressing gratitude for.

In other words gratitude puts you in a harmonious vibrational resonance which attracts additional energies

At any time that you are NOT expressing gratitude for an outcome you are in essence resisting the outcome which places your focus on NOT WANTING that outcome. When this happens what are your thoughts and emotions fixated on? What you DON”T want, correct? That focus of NOT wanting creates a “magnetic force” which only serves to draw to you more of that which you are NOT WANTING or resisting.

Let’s look at the difference between expressing gratitude and resistance in your day to day life…

When you experience an outcome that you find displeasing and you choose to fight or resist whatever is happening in your life at any given moment you are actually creating resistance, which puts you in a disharmonious vibration, or a lower vibrational frequency, and we all know what begins to happen then, don’t we? You resonate with and begin to attract the dis-harmonious events, conditions and circumstances into your life that you are resisting. As mentioned above, you are drawing to you or attracting through your “magnetic force” the polar opposite of what you have a desire to experience.

Resistance is placing focus on what you would rather NOT have happening which is in essence creating and projecting a magnetic force which is drawing to you what it is that you are placing your predominant focus on (resisting) or DON”T have a desire to experience. This focus can only draw more of that which you are focusing on.

Gratitude on the other hand is an acceptance of things just the way they are which correlates with acceptance which in turn resonates and projects a much different resonance of energy creating a magnetic force that is conducive to attracting the “desired” outcome.

A common question that comes up is……

“How in the world can I be in a state of gratitude when everything seems to be going wrong? Let’s dig down a bit deeper, analyze this a little further and you’ll have a crystal clear understanding of what is actually happening.

First of all it’s important to recognize the importance of accepting responsibility for whatever is going on in your life. As we’ve covered in The Power Of Thoughts , the events, conditions and circumstances that you’re currently experiencing are manifestations based on thoughts and emotions that you’ve chosen at some point in the past. It’s due to those thoughts and emotions which represent the seeds, that you are experiencing whatever outcome you currently are. Remember, you are the one that thinks your thoughts. Your thoughts do not think you. In the same way, the emotions experienced serve as a gauge and are a reflection of the quality of thoughts that you are thinking.

Since your current outcomes are based on what you have thought and felt at some point in the past and those outcomes are now being experienced in your life, guess who created them? YOU did!! Although that may not make you feel any better about them just yet, consider this…

Since it is you that is responsible for attracting and creating “undesirable outcomes, then isn’t it also possible to change the thoughts and emotions responsible for creating them which will produce the desired result? Absolutely!!

Simply recognizing the fact that you brought them into your life in and of itself provides you with an understanding of your creative power which in and of itself should instill a sense of gratitude that you’ve been provided the choice as to what you will create for your life.

Although prior to understanding how this process works you were in essence “unconsciously creating”, now you can begin to “consciously create” more to express gratitude for.

Once you fully grasp and understand that your current experiences here and now are merely guideposts showing you that you are either on the right path of creating your desired outcomes or that you need to make some adjustments in your thought processes that created them, you will become empowered to express heartfelt gratitude for whatever is currently happening in your life recognizing the fact that YOU created it.

Sure…you could get mad at yourself and choose to be upset but what energy are you resonating through that choice? NOT the kind that will attract desired outcomes for sure.

Your perception of something going wrong is only your perception, that is all. A misguided perception based on false beliefs and a lack of understanding that EVERYTHING unfolds in your life perfectly just as you choose and instruct.

In the bigger scheme of things, Nothing EVER goes “wrong.” It is only based on a lack of deeper understanding concerning the process of creation that you “perceive” something as going wrong. The process of creation NEVER wavers. It is, has been and always will be perfect, precise and unfailing 100% of the time.

It is only wrong thought and wrong perceptions that are responsible for igniting emotions that attract creations that show up in your life in the form of events, conditions and circumstances that you perceive as “going wrong.”

It’s important to recognize and express gratitude for the fact that EVERYTHING in your life is a miracle, a creation that YOU created.

Creation, regardless of how you might perceive it is ALWAYS 100% of the time a miracle. Learn to recognize that fact and express gratitude for EVERY miracle in your life and you will begin to see the life changing power that gratitude holds in creating MUCH more to be grateful for.

Those miracles (creations) which show up that aren’t in harmony with your intended or desired outcomes are merely signs that YOU need to make adjustments within yourself. When you fully grasp and internalize this truth you’ll learn to express gratitude for the sign that you mis-created it and that you have been provided with the evidence that will enable you to change the thoughts, emotions and perceptions which brought it into your life.

Your perceptions regarding any event, condition or circumstance are only based on a memory of something in the past that is stored in your subconscious mind and can be consciously changed if you discover that it is not in harmony with what you have a desire to accomplish.

For example, let’s look at two people with totally different perceptions regarding the same situation, and see first hand what an attitude of gratitude is, and isn’t.

This analogy will validate the old saying that “There’s a silver lining in EVERY cloud.” That’s MUCH more true than most understand.

Let’s say that you wake up on a Saturday morning after a good nights rest. You’ve worked hard all week and you’re really looking forward to getting outside and playing in a golf tournament that you had entered, and enjoying your weekend of R&R. You’re feeling pretty good about the day ahead of you. You make your coffee and head for the window to open the blinds. You get them opened up and look out the window. ARGGHHHHHH, it’s raining outside!

Next, your self talk kicks in and it goes something like this. “Oh man, my whole day is ruined. I was planning on doing this and that and now I can’t. Why do things always have to happen like that? Another weekend shot! I can’t ever get a break!”

Obviously your perception is that everything went wrong and your whole weekend is ruined. Based on your thought pattern and perception, your right, it is. Unless you are able to change that perception, you’ll allow yourself to have a less than desirable weekend. In fact, by remaining in this state, you will literally attract additional events, conditions, and circumstances to you that will make Certain that you have a less than desirable weekend!

This is a classic case of resistance, or ungratefulness. No silver lining here right?

Now let’s take a look at the neighbor down the street who always seems to have things going his way. Let’s imagine it’s the same scenario. He has worked all week and made plans to play in the same golf tournament that you were entered in.

He walks to the window, opens the shades and sees exactly the same situation that you did when you opened them except, although he initially has a little disappointment because he can’t go to the golf tournament he was planning on, he decides that there is nothing he can do to change the situation and begins his habitual thought process and self talk which goes something like this…

“Boy I sure was looking forward to that golf tournament. Oh well, I’ve got a few things that need to get done around here today anyway. That means I don’t have to water the grass for a few days and that will sure save a little on my water bill. It’s been a few weeks since it rained and we sure needed it.”

Although the person in the second example was a little disappointed initially, a conscious decision was made that wouldn’t allow it to ruin the entire weekend and shifted the focus to something more positive and productive.

This is a classic case of remaining in gratitude, regardless. No resistance, no allowing undesired emotions to ignite and the end result is a harmonious vibration.

Do you see what I mean about perception? Same situation, different people, different perception, different outcome.

Although that’s a “physical” example, it conveys from that perspective how varying perceptions can create completely opposite experiences.

When you have developed a crystal clear understanding that all things work for the greater good no matter how seemingly bad things may appear, it becomes much easier to stay in a state of gratitude.

When you are able to fully develop that awareness, (and with a little practice, you will) not only is it an extremely freeing experience, but you are setting your self up for a much greater flow of Abundance and Happiness being attracted and coming into your life…EVERY area of your life! When the Universe sees that you are grateful for what you have, it will send you more.

This is exactly how Universal Laws operate. The universe doesn’t perceive anything as good or bad, it only sends outcomes to you based on your vibrational resonance, and your attitude concerning any given thing is exactly what determines that vibrational resonance.

God, Universal Consciousness, Super-Conscious Mind or whatever you perceive Source to be, loves each person unconditionally exactly the same and only delivers to each precisely what we are asking for, based on our individually chosen vibrational output. If that output resonates anger, fear, doubt, worry etc. the vibrational resonance that you’re projecting communicates and the universe perceives that you are asking for outcomes based on that output, and that is exactly what you’ll receive!

As spiritual text states it…”As you sow, so shall you reap.”

On the other hand, by learning to consciously control the emotions that determine that output, and developing the ability to remain in a state of Gratitude regardless of what the situation may temporarily consist of, your vibrational output or magnetically attractive force is conducive to attracting outcomes that are in vibrational resonance with Gratitude and you can only attract to you the events, conditions and circumstances that are in alignment with Gratitude. Positive and Desired Outcomes!

We can’t possibly control everything that is going on around us in the world but we can most certainly control ourselves and how we perceive what’s going on.

The unwavering systems (Universal Laws) have been put into place, and you only need to learn to operate in harmony with them, which will allow you to attract the Abundance and Happiness that you desire.

Developing an attitude of gratitude is one of the most important things that you can do for attracting and manifesting the things that you desire into your life. In fact, if you have a desire to consistently attract desired outcomes, it’s essential that you do!

“The hardest arithmetic to master is that which enables us to count our blessings.” — Eric Hoffer

Action Steps To Develop Your Attitude Of Gratitude

Ok, now that you have a feel for the importance of expressing gratitude in your day to day outcomes, regardless of what they are, let’s explore a few ways to develop an attitude of gratitude that will positively effect what you see manifest in your life everyday.

By focusing on and compiling a list of the things that you are grateful for in your life actually accomplishes a few extremely effective things at the same time.
#1 It allows you to bring into your conscious awareness the good things that are happening in your life on a day to day basis, and with repetition, will take your focus off of what you perceive as the negative aspects of any situation.

It’s purpose is to put you more into a mindset of finding that you really do have good, positive things happening to you in all areas of your life, and shifts the focus off of what you perceive to be negative.

In essence it is a conscious choice to focus on gratitude rather than choosing what the mass majority does which is “unconsciously” allowing their thoughts, emotions and focus to run wild all the while believing that their a victim of circumstance rather than a creator of circumstance.

It’s no secret that life can deal what “appears” and is often “perceived” to be a bad hand sometimes, but if you will look hard for it, you can find the good in any situation. Sometimes the answer isn’t readily available, but just the knowing that all things happen for the greater good, is enough to keep you from falling into resistance, and keep it from getting worse.

#2 By shifting the focus off of only the negative aspect of a situation, you are able to see more clearly the positive things that can come out of this situation, which in turn puts you into more of a vibrational state that will attract the things that you desire.

#3 While you are doing this procedure, it is automatically rewriting the negative script that through repetition, you have allowed to be written in your subconscious and replacing it with positive and productive scripting that will deliver to you, more positive and productive outcomes.

It is a fact, each and every person has heard about the zodiac signs – the moon signs and sun signs. There are 12 sun signs and the Sun’s movement in each sign lasts for thirty days. The zodiac sign cycle or the chart of the zodiac signs starts with “Aries”.A ‘horoscope‘ is a diagrammatic representation of the positions of the planets, moon and the sun at the time of birth of a person. The term horoscope is derived from the Greek word “horoskopos” meaning “a look at the hours”. An astrologer interprets and writes the horoscope based on the date of birth and the time of birth. A few common names for horoscope are “Astro-chart”, “Star-chart” and “Cosmogram”. Horoscope is an integral part of astrology – Western or Asian.

America’s Five Most Haunted

Hotels

If you’re into things that go bump in the night, there is no better time of the year than Halloween to stay in a purportedly haunted hotel

Paranormal tourism not only gives traveling ghost hunters a chance for an encounter with something otherworldly, ghost tours routinely provide a wealth of knowledge about the history of the town and establishment as well.

MainStreet took a look at five of the most haunted hotels in America and their spooky stories. If you want to stay in a haunted hotel, book soon because Halloween will sneak up on you like a … well, like a ghost.

Read on if you dare:

The 1886 Crescent Hotel and Spa
Eureka Springs, Ark.

Ghost tour leaders on the nightly excursions through the hotel tell visitors that the professional ghost hunters from the television show proclaimed this luxury hotel-turned-school-turned-cancer-hospital-turned-hotel as the third most haunted building they had ever investigated.

The hotel is one of the only places the team supposedly caught a full-bodied apparition on infrared camera. Those aren’t the only cameras capturing spirits though, as guests routinely share photos of ghostly faces and orbs – round balls of light thought by some to be spirits. Many of the photos can be seen on the website or in the “ghost book” at the front desk.

One of the most playful ghosts to inhabit the grounds is Michael, a young Irish stonemason who came to America to help build the hotel. According to legend, when he leaned over the landing to see a pretty girl passing by, he fell to his death near room 218, one of the rooms with the most reported paranormal activity.

Another part of the hotel that is haunted involves the area on the 4th floor in which Dr. Baker, who wasn’t actually a doctor, lived when he converted the hotel to a cancer hospital. Under his care in the 1930s and 40s, it is thought that nearly 300 residents died there. Baker, along with some of his patients and nurses, have reportedly been seen roaming the halls as ghosts. One patient has been seen numerous times fumbling for her keys outside of room 419. Recently, a little girl who was visiting the hotel with her parents began talking to someone in their room who the mother could not see. The parents concluded from the girl’s description and reported conversation that she had seen Irene Castle, a famous ballroom dancer of the 1920s who was later depicted in a movie by Ginger Rogers. Castle frequented the hotel in her later years and died at her nearby home in 1969. Perhaps she is one of the spectral dancers who have been heard in the ballroom late at night.

The hotel also houses a former morgue where autopsies were performed and bodies were stored, with some reportedly taken and hidden on the grounds to conceal the actual mortality rate at the facility. Believers typically have some sort of experience at the hotel, say staff members and skeptics – well, they have been known to leave in a hurry in the middle of the night.

2. Buxton Inn
Granville, Ohio

Audrey and Orville Orr, owners of the Buxton Inn since 1972, said they never advertise their inn as haunted, but the stories of the ghosts that inhabit the 199-year-old building have gotten around, resulting in recognition by TripAdvisor.com as one of The 10 Most Haunted Hotels in America.

Orville Orr said that when he and his wife first purchased the property, they didn’t even want to talk about the strange happenings at the hotel, being of a conservative background. Even when he saw the apparitions for his own eyes, he says he didn’t want to believe it. “I couldn’t understand it.”

The inn was originally a tavern and has operated continuously since 1812, on a major road heading west through which many supplies were traded and travelers passed. By 1972, there was talk of razing the building for a parking lot, but the Orrs stepped in and completed a full authentic restoration of the four buildings and 25 guest rooms.

Major Buxton was one of the owners and operators of the inn from 1865-1902 and can periodically still be spotted on the first floor of the main building. Ethel “Bonnie” Bounell was an owner from 1934-1960 and her favorite scent of gardenias can still sometimes be smelled wafting through the hallways.

The Orrs have long made peace with their permanent guests. “A psychic told us we don’t want to get rid of them, they like coming back to visit,” says Orville. The Orrs wish to respect their predecessors’ dignity by not hyping the ghosts, but they don’t mind when the curious come to see if they can experience them, too.

3. The Brown Palace Hotel & Spa
Denver

Built in 1892 by a well-known Denverite named Henry C. Brown, the Brown Palace Hotel & Spa has been a temporary stop for every president since Teddy Roosevelt, with the exception of Calvin Coolidge. The Beatles even have a suite named for them, as they stayed at the hotel during a tour stop in the 1960s.

Many believe the hotel has a connection to the “unsinkable” Molly Brown, the Denver socialite who survived the 1912 Titanic disaster, but that is just legend, says hotel management.

While none of their purported ghosts are believed to be legendary singers or former presidents, one is believed to be Louise Crawford Hill, another Denver socialite who took up residence there in the 1930s when the top two floors were converted to apartments.

The front desk has reported calls coming from Room 904, the room Hill occupied during the times when ghost tour operators are telling the story of her scandalous affair. It wouldn’t be so creepy if the 9th floor hadn’t been under renovation at the time, with the wires all stripped from the entire top two floors.

Others have reported seeing a train conductor wearing clothes from the turn of the century walking through the lobby. He is believed to be a visitor who came to the hotel when a train depot operated near the hotel. Still other visitors have reported gas fireplaces turning on by themselves and music emanating from the restaurant late at night.

4. The Myrtles Plantation
St. Francisville, La.

Many of the country’s haunted places are in the historic southern states, and ghost hunters have long designated the Myrtles Plantation as one of the nation’s most haunted. The plantation, built in 1796 by General David Bradford, was reportedly built on a former Native American burial ground and when Whiskey Dave’s workers discovered them, he ordered them burned. That in itself is enough to bring on restless spirits, they say.

The most famous of ghosts who inhabit the Myrtles, however, is Chloe, a former slave who had a romance with Bradford’s son-in-law. Scared of being banished from the home to the fields, the story goes, Chloe began eavesdropping on her lover’s private conversations. Her lover and master caught her, drew a sword and cut off her ear. More desperate to show her worth to the family, she baked a poisoned birthday cake for one of the children, hoping to nurse the sick family members back to health. Instead, the wife and two of her children died.

Her fellow slaves, fearing retribution, lynched Chloe from a chandelier in one of the rooms, and since then is said to have been photographed numerous times at the inn, still wearing the turban she wore to cover her severed ear. The chandelier in that room has been reported to sway back and forth in the middle of the night for no reason as well.

Other ghosts, including children who died from then-incurable diseases, are also reported to roam the halls of the Myrtles. If you stay in one of the 11 guest rooms, make sure to book your spot on the ghost tour early and if you run across a woman wearing a turban or see balls rolling across the floor on their own, think nothing of it. The owners say their ghosts are harmless.

5. Hotel del Coronado
San Diego

Built in 1888, the Hotel del Coronado was known in the late 19th century and early 20th century for a resort for anyone who was anyone and took months to travel the vast space between the East and West Coasts. The Hotel del Coronado even once had its own school to teach the children of their most long-term guests.

Since that era, some of those long-term guests have apparently never left, bringing their occupancy into the afterlife. One of the most famous of the hotel’s ghosts is said to be Kate Morgan, a lovesick woman who checked into the hotel in 1892. She waited for five days for the love of her life to meet her; he never did and Kate was found dead at the bottom of an exterior staircase leading to the beach.

Since then, Kate’s ghost has been reported on the beach and in the hotel, and when she is feeling particularly feisty she plays harmless pranks on guests, says the hotel’s management.

Another hot spot for paranormal activity is the hotel gift shop, where crystal routinely flies off of the shelves and pictures fall off of the walls. The target seems to be souvenirs of the movie Some Like It Hot starring Marilyn Monroe, which was filmed at the hotel in 1958. Marilyn’s ghost, perhaps? Hotel management doesn’t think so. They believe whoever’s ghost it is just doesn’t like sharing the limelight with the 20th century beauty.

The Last Ride
by Paul Melniczek

She lifted up her head and peered outside through the frosted window. Wrinkled eyes gazed into the bright sky, and a smile came over the old woman’s face when she saw the full moon, shining away in all it’s harvest glory, a perfect background setting for All Hallow’s Eve.

A loud purring reached her ears as a black cat leaped up on the table next to the rocking chair she was sitting in.

“Yes, my sweets. Isn’t that a pretty night we have in store for us? Old man moon looks down on us with a wink in his eye tonight.”

The cat stared at her with deep green eyes, attention fixed on every word.

“You know what this night means, don’t you, Trickster?” The cat let out a soft meow, listening to his master.

“It is the passing of an age, that is what. Many long years, happy memories, but there is an ending to every story, good and bad. Ol’ Madge here has seen it all, yes I have.”

The old woman pushed herself up from the chair, one gnarled hand stroking the silken fur of Trickster. There was a creaking noise as old bones cracked within the ancient body, stiff joints groaning in protest at the effort made by her to straighten up.

“Ah, this craggy old girl ain’t what she used to be. Need a dose of the ointment before I go, that’ll fix me for a little while.”

Madge walked over towards a large oaken trunk that was filled with an assortment of herbs, spices, animal parts, jarred collections of insects, packaged powders, and numerous other odds and ends. They were the tools of her trade.

Rummaging through the contents, she found a sachet containing some brown colored leaves, and when she opened it a sweet odor wafted outwards.

“Hmm, this will do fine.” The crone went over to a wooden cabinet which had vials of liquid scattered about the shelves. She grabbed a tube with a bubbly fluid inside with a purple tinge to it, and then poured the leaves in.

Wispy curls of vapor rose up, and the old woman drank deeply.

A look of revulsion crossed her face at the bitter taste, but she shook it off.

“Not the fountain of youth, but it bestows on me a glimmer of strength, and that is all I need.” She smacked her dry lips together, and smiled with glee.

Madge hobbled over to the great stone fireplace that warmed the cottage, and a black cauldron was resting above the burning flames. A green liquid boiled away in a frenzy, fat bubbles oozing from the surface. She stirred the mixture with a metal ladle.

“Double, bubble, toil and trouble!”

“Double, bubble, toil and trouble!’

Cackling with delight, the old woman churned the foul broth with renewed vigor. The cauldron hissed in answer, and the brew began to fizzle over.

“Ha ha, that’s it. A ghastly potion for a ghostly night!”

Madge nodded to herself, and the flames danced before her, casting lurid shadows on the walls of the cottage.

The image behind the cat grew in size, reaching the proportions of a great beast which was many times the feline’s actual body shape.

Trickster growled, his dark mane bristling. The master made a gesture in the air, and the front door burst open as the black cat sprang into the night, the transformation beginning to take place. A howl echoed from the woods outside, and Madge shouted in response, the language old and archaic.

“Rejoice in the wild, my pet. The night calls. Until the sun comes up, when you must return.”

A gust of wind blasted against the cottage, slamming the door shut with a loud crash. The old woman’s wizened face had a trace of sadness on it, and she let out a deep sigh.

“It is almost time, must make haste.”

Madge opened the closet and reached inside, tenderly bringing out a worn garb, black as the night. A tear trickled from the corner of an eye, moistening the callused cheek beneath.

“So many years, where have they all gone? How will I be able to face the next one, knowing that my time is done?”

She pulled the raiment tightly about herself, cherishing the feel of the familiar outfit. The cloak gave her comfort and security.

“Such little time, and too many things to fill it with, ‘tis a pity.”

There was an upper shelf inside the closet, and from this she brought out a rumpled black hat, pointed at the top in the shape of a narrow cone.

“Hee hee hee,” she chuckled. “A pointed cone for a crooked crone.” She set the hat on her head, and brushed back the strands of silver hair that lay tangled down to her shoulders. She began to feel much younger and stronger, but it was only wishful thinking. Potions could give her a teasing of both, but that was it.

Madge crossed to the other side of the room, wooden floor boards creaking underneath her musty black boots. The heels clicked softly with her passing.

A reading desk sat in the corner, and a dusty tome sprawled along the top. Strange words and symbols were etched onto the crinkled pages, the lettering written in blood. She leafed through until she found the proper incantation, then closed the book with a snap.

“Long ago, I could recite nearly every line of verse in half that script. But now…..” The old woman shook her head, again being overcome with remorse.

“More’s the pity, old hag, I’ve had my turn. The wheels of time roll on without stopping, and my moment has arrived to step aside. Only fond memories, no regrets.”

The old woman’s gaze wandered the trappings of the cottage, her domain for countless years. Yes, fate had treated her well, there was no denial.

“And now, my friend, who has served me so well these many years. Will you answer the summons yet again, on this night of all nights?

Madge spread her arms wide in appeal, pale yellow eyes closed in concentration. The wind picked up outside, and tree branches scratched against the window panes, bent stick arms moving in wooden animation, responding to the surge of dark power that was building within the cottage.

There was a flash of brilliance radiating from a section of stone next to the fireplace, and a secret panel was revealed. From the compartment emerged a long broom, stark in opaque blackness, levitating towards the old woman.

“Ha ha ha, come to me! It is our time again. The sisters await!”

The broom continued floating, and it came within the crone’s eager grasp as it throbbed with power, pulsating with diabolical energy.

Madge held the broom up triumphantly, and opened the front door. A strong breeze was blowing, and fallen leaves covered the mossy earth. Sinister figures crouched within the surrounding shadows, lurking among the trees.

It was Halloween night, and spirits of the nights had awakened in unholy celebration.

Madge sat astride the enchanted broom, and up she flew to meet with her fellow sisters of the coven. This was her last time as the coven leader, and a new one would be sworn in this Hallow’s Eve.

She gazed up at the awaiting sky, spotting others of her wicked brethren. It was Halloween night, and for the last time, into that magical night, rode the form of the witch, on her last moonlight ride.

St. Michael Revocation Ritual…

St. Michael Revocation Ritual

Archangel St Michael’s feast day is coming up on September 29th.  As the Archangel’s mission is to fight evil, many spiritual workers invoke him to help those that believe they have been cursed or harmed.  Spells of revocation (also known as reversible spells) are done to send back the evil to those that are trying to harm us.    Revocation spells are best started on a Tuesday so we suggest you commence the Tuesday before St Michael’s Day celebration.

 Here is what we suggest:

A reversible candle with black on top and red on the bottom.  It is important that the black burns first because this is the color that neutralizes all negativity.  By burning it off you are effectively cleaning any negative energy that may surround you.

St Michael Spiritual oil – We suggest you do the following: Take some of the oil and put it in your finger.  Rub the inside of your candle making a few circles on the inside of the glass.  Visualize yourself becoming one with the candle and see the spell becoming a reality in your mind’s eye.  Know that what you seek will be manifested and tell the candle you won’t accept anything else but the best results.  Then encircle the wick with your oiled finger and fill your energy flowing through you into the wick of the candle.

Go to a place where you will not be disturbed.  For this, or any other, spell to be effective you need to be relaxed and concentrated.

Take a few deep breaths and feel yourself relax.  Imagine a white light filling up the room and surrounding you.  Invoke the presence of the powerful Archangel by saying out loud:  St. Michael protect me.  St. Michael defend me in battle.  Holy St. Michael deliver me from evil.

When you feel the presence of the Archangel near you light the candle and say this prayer:

Holy Michael, the Archangel, defend me in battle. Be my safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil and my enemies.  May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do you, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God cast into hell Satan and any evil spirits who wander through the world seeking my ruin.
Amen.

Take a deep breath and thank St. Michael for his valuable help.

CANDLE BURNING SAFETY

Make sure the candle is undisturbed, out of reach of children and pets.  I suggest you NEVER leave a candle unattended.  I believe it is perfectly ok to snuff out a candle if you must leave your home and just continue it burning the next day.  If you suffer from fire paranoia (as I do) I always put my glass encased candles inside a heavy glass pyrex with water.  I also follow the suggestions of the National Candle Association.  See recommendations below:

Always keep a burning candle within sight. Extinguish all candles when leaving a room or before going to sleep.

Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire. Keep burning candles away from furniture, drapes, bedding, carpets, books, paper, flammable decorations, etc.

Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets. Do not place lighted candles where they can be knocked over by children, pets or anyone else.

Trim candlewicks to ¼ inch each time before burning. Long or crooked wicks cause uneven burning and dripping.

Always use a candleholder specifically designed for candle use. The holder should be heat resistant, sturdy and large enough to contain any drips or melted wax.

Be sure the candleholder is placed on a stable, heat-resistant surface. This will also help prevent possible heat damage to counters and table surfaces and prevent glass containers from cracking or breaking.

Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches and debris at all times.

Always read and follow the manufacturer’s use and safety instructions carefully. Don’t burn a candle longer than the manufacturer recommends.

Keep burning candles away from drafts, vents, ceiling fans and air currents. This will help prevent rapid, uneven burning, and avoid flame flare-ups and sooting. Drafts can also blow lightweight curtains or papers into the flame where they could catch fire.

Always burn candles in a well-ventilated room. Don’t burn too many candles in a small room or in a “tight” home where air exchange is limited.

Don’t burn a candle all the way down. Extinguish the flame if it comes too close to the holder or container. For a margin of safety, discontinue burning a candle when 2 inches of wax remains or ½ inch if in a container.

Never touch a burning candle or move a votive or container candle when the wax is liquid.

Never use a knife or sharp object to remove wax drippings from a glass holder. It might scratch, weaken, or cause the glass to break upon subsequent use.

Place burning candles at least three inches apart from one another. This is to make sure they don’t melt one another, or create their own drafts that will cause the candles to burn improperly.

Use a candle snuffer to extinguish a candle. It’s the safest way to prevent hot wax from splattering.

Never extinguish candles with water. The water can cause the hot wax to splatter and might cause a glass container to break.

Be very careful if using candles during a power outage. Flashlights and other battery-powered lights are safer sources of light during a power failure. Never use a candle during a power outage to look for things in a closet, or when fueling equipment – such as a lantern or kerosene heater.

Make sure a candle is completely extinguished and the wick ember is no longer glowing before leaving the room.

Extinguish a candle if it smokes, flickers repeatedly, or the flame becomes too high. The candle isn’t burning properly and the flame isn’t controlled. Let the candle cool, trim the wick, then check for drafts before re-lighting.

Never use a candle as a night light.
